From the Doctor’s Desk

Over the last decade, my focus has been directed towards researching treatments for a variety of the most common psychiatric disorders – Depression, Anxiety, and various Mood Disorders. My treatment philosophy recognizes that pharmacological therapies should be aimed at an individual’s particular genetic makeup. Utilizing this approach, I find that my patients achieve higher rates of remission for longer periods of time.

Personalizing Psychiatry to Your Genetics

“Personalized medicine” uses specific patient data, such as your own DNA snippets (or genotype). This helps doctors individualize your treatment. Half of all patients do not respond well to first-line medication therapies. Why? Because everyone’s body is different.
Part of these differences are dependent upon your genes. Dr. Marsella utilizes Genomind’s Professional PGx (a simple cheek swab) to determine the best course of treatment based upon your individual genetic makeup.
